Our Catholic faith teaches us that grace perfects our nature. That is, grace doesn't destroy our human nature, but perfects it by leading it to its ultimate end--which is God Himself. The effects of sin, however--original sin, our own sins, and the sins of others--can wound and impair our nature, making it all the more difficult to respond to God's grace.
This is where counseling and therapy can be beneficial, to help clear the roadblocks, on the natural level, that can impede our relationship with God and the happiness that He desires for us, even in this life.
However, a purely secular counseling, which doesn't take into account the spiritual dimension of man, and which neglects the importance of faith, prayer, and the Truth that is given to us through Divine Revelation and taught by the Catholic Church, doesn't reach deeply enough--and sometimes can do more harm than good.
